Enhancing Your Azure Portal Skills: Part 2
If you’re a new user, the Azure Portal might seem overwhelming at first. But navigating this powerful platform can be easy with the right approach. From understanding the layout of the portal to managing your resources effectively, we’ll provide you with simple tips to optimize your experience. Keep reading to explore the best practices that will make your time in the Azure Portal more efficient and enjoyable.
Accessing Portal Settings
- You can tailor the platform to suit your preferences and make the transition seamless. To get started, navigate to the upper right corner of the Azure portal, where you’ll find the Global Controls.
Click on the Azure settings option. This action will direct you to a page where you can adjust various settings related to the Azure portal’s appearance and functionality.
Managing Directories and Subscriptions
- Here, you can view all the directories associated with your account. You can also set filters and designate a default directory, which will lead you to different configuration pages.
Setting Up Advanced Filters
- Keep in mind that this menu option appears only if you have permission for multiple subscriptions. This feature is particularly useful for viewing resources from specific subscriptions, management groups, or subscriptions in a particular state.
Customizing Appearance and Startup Views
- In this section, you can adjust various options regarding the behavior and look of the Azure portal. For example, you can choose whether the portal menu should be docked or only visible when clicked.
You can also decide if the resources menu should be collapsed or expanded. Additionally, you can select different themes to customize the portal’s color scheme. Moreover, you can set your default page when accessing the Azure portal, either to the home screen or a specific dashboard.
Selecting Language and Region
- This section is quite simple. It allows you to choose the language for the Azure portal and the regional format for dates, numbers, and other settings. Your selection depends on personal preference, and you will find several options available.
Managing Your Information
- This section is designed for communications and personalized recommendations. Microsoft will use your email address to inform you about service outages or security issues related to Azure.
A useful feature in this section is portal personalization, which can enhance productivity for you and your team. By specifying what you intend to do with Azure, the portal can generate tips, tools, and services tailored to assist you.
Configuring Sign-Out Options and Notifications
- The final option in the Azure portal settings allows you to set up session timeouts for periods of account inactivity. Enabling session timeouts is a smart practice for maintaining the security of your account and resources. If you hold the role of a Global Administrator in the Azure portal, you can also establish a directory-level timeout that applies to all users.
While individual users can override the timeout policy, they can only make it more restrictive, not more lenient. Additionally, this section includes settings for notifications displayed in the portal. You can configure your preferences for receiving these notifications using the provided toggle switch.
